Sign up for the following tuesday race night by clicking the button below before 20:55. Please don't sign up unless you are sure that you will race. If you arrive late without signing up, you can still join the races if there is available space. Though if there are 24 boats in the race and it's fully booked on the entry list on the web, then you should join as spectator and wait until 2:30 on the countdown before you change from spectator to sailor. Otherwise you are blocking the slot for the skipper who signed up in time, who may arrive late.
Do only request a penalty cancellation if you are sure that the penalty you got was wrong.
Approve all requests for penalty cancellations unless you are absolutely sure that a penalty was right.
Please note that a boat approving a penalty cancellation is not running any risk of post race sanctions, ref. the next section.
Protests
There are only 3 kinds of situations you can protest on at the nordic tuesday races:
On a boat who got a correct penalty cancelled.
On a boat who denied cancelling an incorrect penalty.
On a boat who is breaking ISAF RRS Rule 2 (fair sailing).
To file the protest, upload the replay of the race at the VSK Nordic download area, and post your protest in the forum under "Seilaser". There is no need to hail protest on the water for the validity of the protest. The penalty for these violations is disqualification which cannot be discarded from the series of races (DNE). Boats with 2 disqualifications will be excluded from the remaining of the series.
Rule 2
So what is this one rule about that is so important? It regulates fair, honest and sportive sailing. Basically we can divide it in 3:
You should not deliberately break a rule. Typically as windward boat at the startline or as port boat at the windward mark. Instead you have to accept now and then to be early over the startline, or to pass behind the entire fleet at the top mark. Screwing up others race is not an option!
If you know you have broken a rule (or should have known...), then you should volunteerly take a penalty. Even if VSK does not give a penalty to you or not at all. For example when port hits starboard with the mast, which VSK ignores consistently. Remember that when there is contact between two boats, then at least one of them has broken a rule.
Choose your words carefully in the heat of the action. Insults directed at a particular skipper is broadcasted to everybody in the race...
So if you have deliberately broken a rule, not volunteered to take a penalty when you clearly should have, or have abused the race chat, then you have broken rule 2.
Nordic Team Racing
VSK Nordic invites to team racing on Wednesdays at 21. With or without any knowledge about team racing, just join us on the water for informal challenges. Team racing is about learning by doing... Whatever your level is, the amount of fun is the same!
The benefit of team racing
Team racing as a sailing concept is brilliant for many purposes. It creates bonds between the skippers, both within the teams and across the Nordic borders. The atmosphere in informal team races is very relaxed, the rivalry is friendly, and jokes are exchanged rapidly... The races are short, so you will do 2-3 times as many races as you would in fleet racing. The amount of boat vs boat situations you have to relate to are extremely high. Due to this, your rules knowledge and tactical sailing skills will take a signifficant boost, which will be reflected in your fleet racing performance as well.
The basic of team racing
Ideally team races are sailed with 6 boats, 3 on each team. But for our race night, TR works like a charm for 4, 5, 7 and 8 boats as well. The team who get the least sum of points from finishing positions, wins the race. If there is a tie on points, the team without 1st place wins. However if the teams are not evenly sized (5 or 7 boats, and practically also 4), the team with the boat finishing last lose. Here are possible score combinations for 6 boats and 8 boats. In order to help team mates get in a winning position, expect to see very "active sailing"... For those who want to know more about the TR rules and about the procedure for hails on the water, check out the TR appendix.
Preparations
Download the RC44 boat and suitable skins, preferably blue and red. It is recommended to connect to the Nordic TeamSpeak server. This makes team communication easier, which you will see is an advantage. If you are able to host, download the teamrace courses.
Enter
The password for our races is nordic as usual. No registration at the website is needed. Just enter a race server as spectator in order to be allocated to the right team. We'll divide the available skippers in teams (and servers) on the fly, with nationality as the main criteria.
That's all for a start! Expect this brief info to be updated as we progress. And in September 2010, additional TR services will be announced. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to post in the forum for the Wednesday team racing. And of course feel free to host team races on other nights than Wednesdays. Once you get addicted, it's hard to refrain from doing it at other days of the week as well... It takes only 4 to get going.
PS! The Wednesday Team Races are open to Nordic skippers only.
"Lazy" is compiling a VSK Ranking based on all the result files he receives from the VSK community. Already tens of thousands of result files are submitted. You find the ranking list at the downloads section.
He is also creating a black list based on this huge amount of data. Skippers who frequently are scored DNF (quitters) are put on the list. You find the black list at the downloads section.

Erwan, skipper of Sunburn won the Nordic Championship of 2010. Congratulations!!!
As usual, it happened in dramatic fashion. Sunburn had a solid lead going into the finals. However, the solid lead was gone after 2 races of the finals, leaving euphoria with a similar lead. Before the medal race, euphoria was leading 2 points ahead of Casino and 3 points ahead of sunburn. Sunburn secured the title by winning the medal race. euphoria finished 2nd overall by scoring a 5th. Isatis made his way to the last place on the podium by scoring 2nd and 3rd in the last two races.
A collection of light and dark VSK Nordic skins are available for download. Basically there are 2 designs, a light and a dark one. Both of them come in 2 versions: A classic spinnaker design, and an artificial version with the flying sail logo.
All VSK Nordic activities will utilize the patched version from this moment.
PS! Without the patch, you cannot see or join races of skippers who has installed the patch.
